The announcement of the death of Aaron Reed on Saturday last, shortly after the noon hour, was a shock to many friends in this city.  During many months past Mr. Reed has been afflicted with cancerous trouble and recently a large bunch had formed upon the side of his neck, and the sudden termination of life is attributed to this cause.  It has been realized for several months by his family that recovery could not be hoped for, but nevertheless, the sudden summons as above stated, proved a serious shock to them.

Aaron Reed was born in Brockville, Ontario, June 14, 1847, where he resided for a period of twenty years, when he left the old home city and came to Ogle County, settling in 1867 at Washington Grove, in the town of Lafayette.

May 6, 1868, he was united in marriage to Susian Barden, who has since been his faithful companion, and of which union were born eleven children six sons and five daughters, as follows:  May Eyster, Oregon; Melissa Strong, Sterling; Chas and Frank Reed, Oregon: Stella Kreuger, DeKalb; Fred Reed, Belvidere: James Reed, Sterling; Bessie Molman, Geo. And John reed, Oregon.  One daughter, Mrs. Nettie Hicks, departed this life in 1893.

The family home was made in the Washington Grove neighborhood for a number of years, later at Daysville, and has been in Oregon during the past 20 years.  Besides the sons and daughters mentioned above the deceased is survived by the wife and mother, and two sisters, residents of Brockville, Ontario.

The funeral was conducted from the family residence at two o’clock, Monday afternoon, Rev. Edwards of Mt. Zion U. B. church, having charge of the service, and was largely attended by relatives, neighbors and friends, all of who came generously to the assistance fo the family during this time when true friendship is appreciated.  The floral offerings were many and beautiful.  Burial was made in the family lot at the Daysville cemetery.
